I am a contemporary landscape painter based in the South Downs, near Lewes, East Sussex.
Working predominantly in oils, I make expressive, semi-abstract images of the elemental landscape. I am drawn to big skies and wild spaces, taking inspiration from the downs, forests and cliffs of my local area and further afield, as well as from fictional landscapes: Shakespeare's heath, Bronte's wild moors, Du Maurier's epic coastline. My compositions are an attempt to capture the unharnessed energy of a space and moment in time, exploring the timeless, primitive connections we have with the natural world we inhabit and the feelings evoked by immersion in the wilderness. I also make sketches and studies in graphite, charcoal and Indian ink.
I am proud to be a member of Burgess Hill Artists, an eclectic Sussex based group, and The New Art Rebellion, an online platform supporting global emerging artists.
