I am a contemporary landscape artist based in the beautiful South Downs, UK.
I studied fine art at college before researching the philosophy of art and aesthetics at university- exploring ideas in theory and in practice...
My local geography provides me with coast, country and of course the majestic rolling downs. The light is transient, transformed by the weather and the seasons, so although I have a real sense of place I find that no two days and no two views are ever the same. I also take inspiration from other locations, places with an equally evocative scenery and history, such as the North Sea and the Yorkshire Moors (where my family hail from), and the coast and valleys of South and West Wales.
I am interested in capturing the feeling evoked by a place or object, the atmosphere created by the light, the colour and the air. My alla prima paintings are usually abstract or semi representational, using gestural, impasto strokes to create expressive, energetic compositions. I work predominantly in oils, plein air or in the studio; I also make sketches and studies in ink, graphite and charcoal.
I am a member of Burgess Hill Artists www.burgesshillartists.co.uk, a local artists collective, and the New Art Rebellion instagram/TheNewArtRebellion, a global art group supporting emerging artists.
